Piano Roll Grid On GarageBand 10.1

Today I was working on the new Garageband version 10.0.1 and could not figure out how to change the grid to different note values on the piano grid roll to values other than 16th notes. It seems like the new version of Garageband has been simplified almost too much. The feature of changing the grid value is one that I consider to be very important when making midi-based music.

I did figure out a way to do it, however you must do a little math in your head. Here’s the deal. If you want to do 8th note triples for instance, then you must manually pencil in 3 notes in the space of one 8th . Then select only those 3 notes you just entered. Next, go to the left of the Piano Roll where it says “Time Quantize”, and select 8th note triplets. If you want to do 16th note triples then simply do the same but instead make sure to manually pencil in three note values in the space of one 16th note. See this video for a better explanation.
